The trip, day by day
Day by day, no surprises. Navy nodes are the mainland, sky blue is the Galápagos, and gold is what your route adds.
Land in Quito and get a private transfer to your hotel. Depending on when you arrive, you'll have your first meal and time to rest and adjust to the Andean capital, which sits at 9,350 ft (2,850 m).
Night in Quito
A full day through the best of Quito: the inhabited Pululahua crater, the Intiñán Museum, the Middle of the World Monument, the cable car up to 13,450 ft (4,100 m), the Basílica del Voto Nacional, and El Panecillo.

The gateway to the Amazon. The Pailón del Diablo (Devil's Cauldron) waterfall drops 260 ft (80 m) in three tiers, and the Swing at the End of the World, at the Casa del Árbol, launches out over the valley facing the Tungurahua volcano.

Fly to the archipelago and transfer to Puerto Ayora. Your first run-in with the dock's wildlife (iguanas, sea lions, pelicans) and a visit to the Charles Darwin Station, home to century-old giant tortoises.

Tortuga Bay, a mile of white sand with marine iguanas basking in the sun. In the afternoon, Las Grietas: a clear-water channel between volcanic rock walls that's perfect for snorkeling, plus Playa de los Alemanes.

Ferry over to San Cristóbal. Sea lion colonies at Playa Mann, the Interpretation Center, Punta Carola, and Cerro Tijeretas, with its Pacific overlooks and the bust of Charles Darwin.
